Rugby was started in Brazil in 1891, in Rio de Janeiro, and in 1895 in São Paulo (by Charles Miller). It has been practiced regularly since 1925. Today, Rugby has more than 300 clubs and around 60,000 players. The first governing body of the sport in Brazil was the Brazilian Rugby Union, founded in 1963 and replaced by the Brazilian Rugby Association in 1972. In 2010, the Brazilian Rugby Confederation was born after the reintroduction of Rugby in the Olympic Games. CBRu is responsible for all types of Rugby Union, including Rugby XV, Rugby Sevens, Beach Rugby and Tag Rugby.
